Abstract

This paper is concerned with theory of collision of slow electrons with simple molecules. First, nature of the electron-molecule interaction is discussed. Then, for nuclear position fixed in space, calculation of the scattering cross section of a diatomic molecule is formulated. Both one-center and two-center expansion methods are used, and comparison of the two methods is made. The rotational and vibrational transitions are considered for non-polar and polar molecules. Finally, for electronic transitions, studies in the pase are briefly summarized.
