Studies of the circulation of the talus have been reported by Wildenauer16 Lauro and Purpura8 Frignani and Vitolli3 and Mc-Keever.10 The following discussion represents studies made at the Mayo Clinic in collaboration with other colleagues.4 We are concerned more with the practical applications of our observations than with the technics of our study on osseous circulation. To appreciate the special arrangement of talar circulation, one must realize that the talus has no muscular origins or insertions on its surface. Three fifths of its surface is covered by articular cartilage, which leaves two fifths that can be perforated by vessels.
