Gain Narrowing in a Laser Amplifier

Abstract

The phenomenon of gain narrowing of an inhomogeneously broadened line in stimulated emission has been observed and was found to give good agreement with theory. The effect was observed by measuring the variation in gain across the amplifying line using a fixed frequency laser oscillator and a tunable single-pass laser amplifier.
