Abstract Summary. ‐ Arrhénius parameters and heat of reaction are determined for reversible S N 2 reactions, involving alicyclic bromides: magnified image . Lithium iodie and anhydrous acetone (as solvent) are used. The following bromides are studied: magnified image . The interpretation of the relative values obtained for the activation energies in these halogen exchange reactions is done in terms of potential energy factors i. e. A for small ring compounds: conjugation effect, electrostatic effect, strain effect (I‐strain), resonance effect. B for common ring compounds: internal steric effect.
