Abstract

Formally a degradation product of P4 (P4 → 1 → 2 → 3), the dication 3, R = 2,6(CH3O)2C6H3, has been obtained via a completely different route. Reaction of 2,6-(CH3O)2C6H3SnMe3 with PClF2 yielded the salt 3-Me3SnF2. The dication contains a planar P4 ring, and the substituents on the triple bonded P atoms are trans. The anion is also novel.
