The elastic constants of the Nb-Mo system have been measured and calculated theoretically over a wide range of temperature and composition. This study completes previous work on the elastic constants of the Nb-Zr system and contributes to a better understanding of the anomalous elastic behaviour of Nb. The agreement between experiment and theory is good, all anomalous effects appear in both of them, and their origin is understood as a bandstructure effect.
