A kinetic study of the chlorination of tertiary alcoholamines in alkaline media

Abstract

Abstract The kinetics of the chlorination of various tertiary alcoholamines by hypochlorite have been studied in alkaline media. A reaction mechanism consistent with the experimental results is put forward, and a relationship is established between the rate constants and the polar parameter (Σσ*) of the substituents.
