Abstract

ABSTRACT DRAFT and energy data are presented for six reduced tillage treatments on Norfolk loamy sand soil. The implements included a Howard Paraplow*, subsoiler, chisel plow and no-till planter. Soybean plant height, yield, taproot length and harvest population were evaluated with respect to tillage treatments. Statistical relationships among tillage systems, soil compaction, taproot length and crop yield are given. There were no significant differences in draft requirements (kN/shank) between a sub-soiler and a Paraplow at the same depth of operation. Draft increased with an increase in tillage depth. The chisel plow required significantly less draft per shank
