Several methods for the improvement of room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) analysis of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) have been investigated. Two approaches that were investigated in order to detect improvements over existing methods were the second-derivative technique and synchronous scanning techniques. The effects of several phosphorescence enhancing agents were studied in order to improve the sensitivity of the RTP method. The results indicated that the RTP technique is simple and efficient for the screening of PCBs in soil samples.
