Film: Stapedectomy and Graft-Prosthesis Operation

Abstract

Because the stapes mobilization procedure so frequently fails because of reankylosis of the footplate after a period of months or years, there has been a trend toward stapes-replacement surgery. Shea first demonstrated the feasibility of this concept and has had excellent results, in a series of several hundred patients, using a vein graft and polyethylene tube for stapes replacement.
