Abstract The presence of pyridinium chlorochromate as an oxidizing agent in acetonitrile solution containing the monomer and the doping agent significantly accelerates electrochemical polymerization of pyrrole. The thickness of poly pyrrole layers produced by this combined electrochemical and chemical synthesis reaches several milimetres for the 60 min polymerization reaction. The influence of pyridinium chlorochromate concentration on the rate of polymer formation and the amount of released gas was investigated during the combined synthesis of polypyrrole. The polypyrrole prepared was characterized by ESCA analysis.
