Role of Technetium-99m N,N-Ethylenedicysteine Renal Scintigraphy in the Evaluation of Differential Renal Function and Cortical Defects

Abstract

This study suggests that although Tc-99m DMSA scintigraphy remains the gold standard method for evaluating parenchymal abnormalities, Tc-99m EC scintigraphy can be a reliable single-modality study to evaluate renal cortical defects, DRF, perfusion, drainage of the urinary system, and indirect evidence of vesicoureteric reflux with the added advantage of low radiation exposure to the patient.
