Abstract

South Africa has experienced a significant transitional stage in its water resource management strategy. The previous government enacted the Water Act of 1956, which regulated the use of water in South Africa until 1998. During that 40-year period, water resource management focused on the allocation of available water supply to meet the needs of the more developed sectors of the economy.
