Numerical computations for the shielded magnetoresistive head are reported and compared with previous analytic and experimental results. Linear resolution is found to be essentially the same as for inductive heads. Output amplitude is in the range 50 to 175 V per meter track width for a sense current density of 5 × 10 <sup xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">10</sup> A/m <sup xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</sup> .
