ABSTRACT. In the state of Espirito Santo, Brazil, a cassava disease was recently described, and subsequently a high density of trypanosomatids was revealed in the latex of unhealthy plants. To better characterize this flagellate, Phytomonas françai , we tried to grow it axenically. Successful results were obtained using a biphasic medium containing rabbit blood in the solid phase and a defined medium as overlay.
