Inner-Shell Absorption in the Spectra of the Alkaline Earths. I. Magnesium (Mg I)

Abstract

The absorption spectrum of magnesium vapor in the extreme-ultraviolet region has been obtained, and twenty-three previously unknown lines of Mg I have been observed near 220 A. Twenty-one of the lines have been classified into five series, involving excitation of an inner-shell 2p electron, and identification of the remaining two lines is suggested.
