A hydroxylated graphene–S nanocomposite exhibiting superior electrochemical performance at high rates is developed through a facile chemical deposition method at room temperature. The hydroxyl groups in graphene can interact with the sulfur-containing compounds, rendering sulfur in the amorphous state during the chemical deposition reaction and preventing polysulfide dissolution during cycling.
