ABSTRACT The influence of crop rotations on the population of parasitic nematodes of rice has been studied. Maize and barley were observed to be suitable hosts for the root nematode Hirschmanieila' mucronata, whereas jute, potato and wheat were unsuitable. Maize was a good host to the root-lesion nematode Pratylenchus indicus, but black gram, oats, wheat and green gram were unsuitable. Green gram, cowpea and sesamum supported high populations of the lance nematode Hoplolaimus indicus. Sweet potato, cowpea, castor, sunflower, soybean, sesamum, onion and turnip were observed to inhibit the growth of root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne graminicola) populations. Sesamum and Basella rubra were found to be non-hosts for the stunt nematode Tylenchorhynchus claytoni.
