When the coronary inflow is unrestricted, the oxygen supply to control low-flow regions meets metabolic demand. Flow to control high-flow regions reflects a higher local demand rather than overperfusion. Thus, blood flow heterogeneity most likely reflects differences in aerobic metabolism.
