Abstract

The preparation of a number of derivatives of the type Ru(CO) 3 (L)(SiRCl 2 )(X) and [Ru(CO) 3 (SiRCl 2 )(X)] 2 (L = CO, phosphorus donor ligand; R = CH 3 , Cl; X = H, Cl, Br, I; not all possibilities) is described. The syntheses of M(CO) 4 (SiMeCl 2 ) 2 (M = Ru, Os) and mer-M(CO) 3 (PPh 3 )(SiMeCl 2 ) 2 are also reported. The pattern of substitution in the tetracarbonyl molecules is consistent with the SiRCl 2 ligand as having a large trans-effect in these compounds. From a qualitative study of the rates of substitution, it appears the trans-effect of the SiMeCl 2 ligand is at least comparable to that of SiCl 3 .
