Abstract There have been few recent additions to the group of mercury‐nitrogen compounds. Current developments in this field are mainly concerned with the elucidation of the structures of these compounds. The structures of coordination‐polymeric Hg–N compounds may be considered from the point of view of their relationship with silicates. The bond parameters of the Hg–N grouping are compared with the parameters of bonds between mercury and elements adjacent to nitrogen in the periodic system.
