Values for heats of mixing of a number of alloys in the β-, γ-, and ɛ-phase fields of the Ag–Zn and Cu–Zn systems have been determined at 573 and 673 K by tin-solution calorimetry. These have been combined with existing free-energy values to give total excess entropies of mixing of selected alloys. For one alloy (∼ 50 at.-%) in each system the total excess entropy has been divided into configurational and vibrational components and a comparison made between them and an A1–Zn alloy of similar Zn content. It is suggested that the variations in the entropy values of the three alloys indicate varying degrees of electron-shell interaction between Zn and Ag, Cu, and Al.
