A carbene- or nitrene-analogous boron species, the title compound 1, was generated by photolysis of RB(SiPh3)2 or B(SiPh3)3 and detected by trapping reactions. 1 inserts into CH and CO bonds and cycloadds to CC bonds to yield borirenes such as 2.
