In-line for promotion: A study of self-assembled monolayers of sulfanylalkanoic acids containing odd and even numbers of methylene groups supported on gold and silver has demonstrated that the crystallographic direction of nucleated calcite crystals is controlled by the orientation of the functional groups in the templating surface (see picture).
