Abstract A pentanuclear iron(III) complex with 2,6-bis(salicylideneaminomethyl)-4-methylphenol (H3L), [Fe5(L)2(O)(OH)2(CH3COO)5(dmf)]·C6H6·2H2O (dmf = dimethylformamide) has been synthesized and characterized by magnetic susceptibilities (5–300 K). The X-ray crystal structure analysis has demonstrated that it consists of pentanuclear units where the Fe5 framework has roughly a rectangular-based pyramidal geometry.
