Abstract

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is widely distributed in animal organs,') plant tissues2) and several kinds of microorganisms,3.4) and occurrence of CoQ10 is recognized in such bacteria as Pseudomonas denitrificans,6) Rhodo spirillum,6) Rhodopseudomonas,7) Rhodomicrobium,8) Agrobacterium9) and Gluconobacter.10) During the course of searching CoQ10-productive microorganisms in our laboratory, red pigmented airborne bacterium was found to be a potent CoQ10 producer on glucose medium. This bacterium was found to grow also on methanol as a sole source of carbon. Taxonomical studies revealed that this bacterium resembles Pseudo monas AMI,11) which is well known as a member of facultative methanol oxidizing bacteria described in Bergey's Manual 8th ed., and it was named as Pseudo monas N842. The present paper is the one concerning the production of CoQ10) by methanol oxidizing bacteria.
