Nanophased amorphous iron particles were coated by various carboxylic acids and their physical properties (differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, temperature-programmed desorption, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and magnetism) were measured. The various properties were measured as a function of the alkyl chain length. The desorption pattern at 400 °C revealed a keto derivative.
