The first high-valent zirconacarboranes bearing a η6- or η7-carboranyl ligand have been prepared and structurally characterized by an unexpected oxidative-addition reaction between Zr(II) and the carborane cage. The bridging ligand [Me2Si(C9H6)(C2B10H11)]3- can provide a much more open coordination environment at the metal center, probably offering a model complex for catalysis study.
