Abstract

Transient paralysis of accommodation developed in a 7-year-old diabetic four days after beginning treatment with insulin. Symptomatology this severe is rare in diabetes, and only five similar cases have been reported. However, this case serves as a reminder that milder changes in both refraction and accommodation are frequent at the onset of diabetes (most often after treatment has been started) and may be associated with either a rise or fall in blood sugar.
