Young people's increasing failure to find jobs has returned the concept of unemployment to significance. In intervention with deprived and delinquent youngsters, unemploymentnow enjoys a significance that has escaped it for several decades. Work has social and psychological importance for young people and it also has dynamic implications within their families which are largely ignored in assessment. Getting and keeping adolescents in work should receive some of the attention we reserve for the symptoms of maladjustment.
