High Angular Momentum Components in the Subbarrier Fusion of Heavy Ions

The fusion of $^{80}\mathrm{Se}$+$^{80}\mathrm{Se}$ has been studied near and just below the Coulomb barrier. High angular momentum components were observed by measurement of $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray multiplicity distributions for the decay of the evaporation residues.
