Abstract

Polycrystalline Mn–Zn ferrites substituted with different rare earth ions (R = La, Nd, Sm, Gd and Dy) are investigated. X-ray diffraction analysis showed a single spinel phase. On substitution, the lattice parameter remained unchanged, the porosity is increased and the grain size is decreased relative to the unsubstituted sample (US). Moreover, on substitution the magnitude of the initial permeability and Curie temperature are decreased. The magnetization, the energy loss and coercive field are decreased for substituted samples, except for R = La where these parameters are increased. The electrical resistivity is found to increase for all substituted samples, except for R = Sm.
