Abstract A nomogram scaled in logarithmic units, and a chart are provided for estimation of the effective thermal conductivities of two‐phase media. The former is useful for precise prediction, and the latter as an approximate guide to probable limiting values. The basis is a logarithmic equation proposed by Woodside & Mesmer, biased empirically following the study of about 150 experimental results for two‐phase media. The practical uses are numerous, e.g. estimations of the conductivities of filled plastics, filled rubbers; metal, ceramic and other powders in fluids or gases; ocean sediment; waterlogged and frozen soil, and other materials.
