Abstract The inhibition of the oxidation of humid CO by HCI and CI2 during the induction period has been investigated using a detailed chemical kinetic model. The calculations indicate that HCI and CI2 inhibit the hydrogen catalyzed path for the oxidation of CO and thus increasingly force CO oxidation to take place via the “dry” routes. The induction times for the CI2 inhibited cases exhibit an unusual non-Arrhenius behavior in which the overall activation energies also show a significant maximum.
