Abstract

The end effects are the particular sensitive difficulty to model linear drives. Moreover an electrical machine model which only considers single physical aspect is not sufficiently accurate. In this paper, 3D magnetic and thermal models are achieved taking into account the end effects and the multi-physical aspects. For the first step, the linear motor is studied as a braking system with different displacement velocities. For the second step, the startup thrust force is studied with the coupling between the magnetic and thermal models. The both simulation results are compared to experimental results obtained by a test bench with the reduced scale.
