Abstract The static lattice and elastic Green's functions (GF) are compared for Born‐von Karman models of Cu, Al, Nb, and Li. If the spectrum for lower frequencies is determined by small q‐values only, the lattice GF agrees quite well with its elastic counterpart outside the effective range of the coupling parameters. This result is in contrast to earlier calculations which did not treat the Fourier integration near q = 0 accurately enough.
