Pupillary-Block Glaucoma in the Marchesani Syndrome

Abstract

Angle-closure glaucoma was induced by miosis or topical application of 1 % pilocarpine hydrochloride in an adult who had Marchesani syndrome. These effects were reversed by pupillary dilation with mydriatics. Although the zonules were intact, depth of the central anterior chamber was reduced as compared with that of normal subjects. The findings support Chandler's postulate of anterior lens displacement in the Marchesani syndrome. "Contact pupillary-block" resulted in angle-closure glaucoma with miotic pupils before, but not after, peripheral iridectomies were performed.
