Abstract The electrical charge flow associated with an inhomogeneous plastic deformation, as first described by Fishbach and Nowick, was further investigated. Microindentations were made in order to localize the deformation to a single small volume. In these conditions the observed effect corresponds qualitatively to a transport of negative charge by moving dislocations. Small additions of cadmium ions enhance the effect slightly. Flexion gives strong but non-reproducible signals.
