Abstract

The polarization of 40-MeV protons scattered by helium, lithium, carbon, aluminum, nickel, and lead has been measured using a polarized proton ion source in conjunction with the Minnesota Proton Linear Accelerator. Experimental procedures utilized in the measurements are discussed in detail. $p\ensuremath{-}\ensuremath{\alpha}$ polarization measurements are compared with the theoretical predictions by Gammel and Thaler.
