Abstract

A unique complex, [Ru(dpop‘)2](PF6)2 with dpop‘ a novel mixed-denticity ligand, has been prepared and the physical properties studied. The UV−vis absorption spectrum of the bis-tridentate chelated complex displays intense MLCT absorptions at 517 and 356 nm, and a dpop‘ IL transition at 306 nm. The reversible Ru2+/3+ redox couple at +1.74 V indicates that dpop‘ is a strong π-withdrawing ligand. Electrochemical studies also show sequential dpop‘ 0/- redox couples are separated by 0.28 V. 1H and 13C NMR resonances are assigned and data support the structure.
