ABSTRACT Interfacial activities of Hostarex A327 and isodecanol and of Hostarex A327 in the presence of isodecanol and tributyl phosphate were studied in lactic acid extraction systems containing a great excess of modifier and a constant ratio of extractant to modifier used in comparable amounts. The usefulness of appropriate procedures for reprocessing the interfacial data was demonstrated to estimate the absolute and relative interfacial concentrations of extractant molecules at the interface. When alcohol is used in a great excess, Its molecules occupy the interface at Hostarex A327 concentration below 10−3N. At higher concentrations the adsorption of Hostarex A327 becomes dominant but interactions between its molecules and alcohol molecules in the organic phase should be taken under consideration. In systems containing comparable amounts of Hostarex and modifier inconstant ratio the adsorption of Hostarex A327 is dominant and the coadsortion occurs only in a very small region of concentration equivalent to the change of the interfacial tension of 2-3 mN m-1
