Measurements have been made of the direct transition magneto-optical effect in strained and unstrained germanium at 77\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}K. The results indicate that the absorption peaks correspond to transitions to exciton levels associated with each Landau level in qualitative agreement with the calculations of Loudon, and Howard and Hasegawa. A definitive experiment is suggested to test this theory.
