A rare case of varices in the third portion of the duodenum as seen with an Olympus JF-B duodenoscope is described. The unusual location of the varices was due to calcifying pylephlebitis secondary to schistosomiasis. Fiberduodenoscopy proved of value in the diagnosis when carried out in combination with roentgenographic studies. Biopsy from such lesions is contraindicated, however.
