In this paper some discrepencies between experiments and modeling of the phase transformations consequences are pointed out considering the martensitic transformation in a 16MND5 steel. Three phenomena have been analysed: . From a metallurgical point of view, it is shown that martensitic transformation may develop even if the cooling process is stopped. This observation disagrees with the forecasts of Koistinen and Marburger 'state' rule. . Contrary to what it can be expected, the strain hardening of the austenitic phase seems to not be transmitted to the martensitic phase during the transformation. . During martensitic transformation without any external load, transformation plasticity is observed due to a plastic predeformation of the austenitic phase. It is shown that the observed effect cannot be qualitatively described by Leblond's model.
