The recent development of methods to determine the presence of the hormone (or hormones) of the anterior lobe of the hypophysis in the blood or urine of patients has opened a new field of study which may prove of much clinical assistance in the diagnosis and treatment of certain endocrine disturbances. In a previous communication1the results of tests for the presence of anterior pituitary hormone in the blood of pregnant women were given, and attention was directed to a number of positive changes following an operative or radiation castration. The present report deals with the study of a small series of patients with (1) a total extirpation of the ovaries, (2) a radiation castration, (3) a functional amenorrhea, or (4) irregular menstruation. The method used in this investigation is based on the "pregnancy test" of Zondek and Aschheim,2and consists in a microscopic study of the changes
