Abstract The mass spectra of the flavones apigenin and acacetin have been reported by Wilson and Reed (1) whilst the mass spectrum of flavone itself has been described by Barnes and Occolowitz (2). A discrepancy between the results obtained lies in the importance assumed by breakdown via a Diels‐Alder reaction (described as mode A in paper I (3) of this series) in the natural products as compared with the parent compound.
