Abstract

Abstract Using 1,1,6‐trimethyl‐2‐carbethoxy‐cyclohexan‐3‐one as starting material, 6‐methyl‐γ‐ cyclo geranic ester, 6‐methyl‐γ‐ cyclo geraniol, and 6‐methyl‐γ‐ cyclo citral have been synthesized. 6‐Methyl‐γ‐ cyclo citral, condensed with acetone, led to a mixture of about equal parts of 6‐methyl‐γ‐ and 6‐methyl‐b̃‐ionone (γ‐ and β‐irone). The two ketones have been separated by means of their phenylsemicarbazones.
