Abstract

Buff's ‘ferrocyanäthyl’ consists of hexakis(hydrogen isocyanide)iron2+ chloride, the cation of which is stabilized through strong hydrogen bonding {d[(FeC)N ⋯ O(H)Et] 2.509(3)Å} to a second co-ordination sphere of six molecules of ethanol.
