Abstract

This study showed that mixed connective tissue disease is associated with elevated plasma immunoreactive endothelin-1 and that endothelin-1 levels significantly correlate with antiendothelial autoantibodies. These findings suggest that increases in plasma endothelin-1 concentration may be secondary to vascular injury and do not necessarily represent enhanced susceptibility to vasoconstriction.
