Abstract One step as well as multisteps of polymeranalogous reactions of hydrophilic gels based on poly(glycol methacrylate) were studied. The reaction medium for these transformations was chosen with respect to the result of linear swelling capacity measurements to reach a satisfactory rate. Attention was devoted to the determination of the region where the gels are chemically stable as well as to the preparation of the new, practically useful, gel system.
